Empowering Mothers & Bridging Talent in the Green Energy Sector led by Mothers into Work

Mothers Into Work led by CEO Farzana Sarwar is transforming the workforce by unlocking the potential of mothers and women returners in the rapidly growing Green Skills sector. With 240,000 new jobs projected, the industry needs skilled, diverse talent—Farzana who won the National 2024 Inspiring Women in Construction and Engineering awards for promoting Allyship says “We’re ensuring mothers are part of the solution bringing their immense talent and people skills to help grow this sector“.

Breaking Barriers, Building Futures

Women currently make up just 14% of the construction workforce with a need to achieve more gender parity. The women MIW supports are ambitious and ready to utilise their vast skills and education. Many have now completed raising children at home and are keen to bring their skills to work to provide a loyal and committed workforce solution to employers within diverse industries. Our initiative tackles the key obstacles that prevent returning mothers from re-entering the job market: lack of confidence, industry exposure, acquiring new training, and employer connections. These are all brokered in partnership with employers helping employers find solutions to talent acquisition, workforce diversity and employee retention.

Through tailored workshops integrated within employer training and recruitment streams and mother-friendly placements, we provide hands-on training and direct access to hiring companies finding solutions for the growing need of agile workforce solutions. Partnerships are a key to ensuring success. MIW’s collaboration with trusted partner Mark Byerley at MNB Education, helps to support our delivery models to meet employer needs.

A Model for Success:

Our Pre-Employment Workshop with Mace Interiors In partnership with DWP, London job centres, Ukrainian refugee networks, and local mothers groups and community organisations, ensured we delivered an innovative pre-employment workshop at Kelly Group’s new Green Skills training centre in Enfield.

Industry leaders, including Mace, Ferrovial, and Kelly Group, offered insights into smart energy, electricity, transportation, and telecommunications. Our workshop included Practical CV and interview coaching.

Motivational talks from industry professional working mothers in Green Skills roles shared their journeys to inspire other mother returnees .

Employer-led training was delivered to raise awareness on new jobs on green energy careers. Further project strategy by MIW was incorporated to support talent into different apprenticeship and workforce streams.
