Targeted Skills Bootcamps and SWAPs to Support the net zero transition

To drive green skills uptake, Quantum Training and NOCN Group have developed a series of industry-specific Skills Bootcamps and SWAPs that directly address key barriers — from educator shortages to basic skills gaps — ensuring inclusive, job-ready training pathways.

Quantum Training and NOCN Group, is focused on developing qualification pathways that directly address industry needs. These include bundled qualifications that combine technical training in low-carbon technologies, sustainable construction, and retrofit practices with foundational skills such as ESOL and Maths. This ensures access for a broader and more diverse range of learners, helping to remove common barriers to entry.

Quantum’s Low Carbon Training Facilities and Retrofit Training Facilities—installed in Further Education (FE) colleges across the UK—provide learners hands-on experience with technologies such as heat pumps and solar systems; and energy efficiency techniques such as insulation, ventilation, and air tightness. These facilities, mirror live workplace conditions and are designed in conjunction with certified courses delivered in partnership with NOCN Group, ensuring training is both inclusive and industry-relevant.

Key pillars of our approach include:

  • Practical training facilities designed for learners at all levels
  • Certified practical courses in partnership with NOCN Group
  • Train-the-Trainer programmes for renewable technologies and retrofit practices for FE tutors
  • Bootcamps & SWAPs, in collaboration with NOCN Group, to equip new entrants with targeted green skills and provide older industry operatives a route into the classroom to bring their wealth of knowledge to education.

All training is aligned with current industry standards and developed in collaboration with employers, manufacturers and further education providers. Our objective is to create a pipeline of job-ready individuals with the skills, qualifications, and real-world experience needed to support the transition to net zero.

Programmes such as SWAPs and Skills Bootcamps connect learners directly with employers and local industry, ensuring that technical skills are supported by workplace readiness and employability. Employer engagement is embedded throughout delivery, ensuring relevance, and creating pathways to meaningful employment.

By building in clear delivery models and engagement structures, these solutions are designed to be scalable, inclusive, and sustainable—bringing together colleges, employers, and industry to grow the green workforce the UK needs.
